What Is Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a comprehensive healing system that has been practiced for over 2,500 years. At its core is acupuncture, the practice of inserting fine needles into specific points on the body to restore balance and promote the body’s natural healing processes.

Eastern Perspective: A Philosophy of Balance

In TCM, health is viewed as a state of dynamic balance between opposing yet complementary forces, known as Yin and Yang, and the smooth flow of Qi (vital energy) through the body’s meridians (energy pathways). Illness arises when this flow is blocked, deficient, or excessive

Western Perspective: Scientific Insights

From a biomedical standpoint, acupuncture has been shown to:

  • Stimulate the nervous system and release endorphins (natural painkillers)
  • Influence neurotransmitters and hormonal regulation
  • Improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and modulate the immune system
  • It is commonly used in the West for pain relief, stress reduction, digestive issues, insomnia, fertility support, and more.
